Seniors Open

With a great deal of fore thought and a lot of hard planning in 1985, a committee of seniors got together to launch the Cochrane Castle Senior Open. The inaugural Open was held in May 1986.

Malcolm Bowman approached Loganair for sponsorship and the company very kindly donated the Loganair Rosebowl which is played for each year with the overall winner's name being engraved on the plinth. Loganair, to this day are still the main sponsors of our Open Day.

Cochrane Castle Golf Club and the Organising Committee extend a very warm welcome to all who come and paricipate in our competition. The 2011 event was played on the 10th May 2011 with Graeme Matchett from Stirling winning the title.

Many years ago in the dark ages of old golfing technology 1985, there grew out of Cochrane Castle Golf Club, a Senior Section or to quote a famous book, "The Ride of the Wrinklie" under the guidance of the first Secretary Ken Warner and the Organising Committee.

This Senior Section has maintained a varying number of players who turn out in all weathers for the monthly stableford and the same for the AGM and Christmas ones. In recent years, a Knockout Tournament has been introduced.

In 1989, the Renfrewshire Seniors Golf League was formed with Cochrane Castle being one of the founder members, with the participation of seven other clubs, which increased to eight shortly after. The league was started as a friendly get together of the Senior Sections of the clubs involved playing home and away games. The number of players wanting to participate in this league also grew, making the league what it is today.

With the introduction of a trophy the games between clubs have become much more competitive, with Old Ranfurly winning seven times, Ranfurly Castle and Cochrane Castle winning four times, Renfrew three, Caldwell twice, Paisley and Ralston one each, with Elderslie and Kilmalcolm making the nine clubs.
